Two hurt in construction zone crash

 

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) — Two people were hurt Wednesday in a construction zone crash in Williamson County.

It happened at about 3:20 PM in the southbound lanes of Interstate 57.

Illinois State Police say a construction truck was parked on the while line, straddling the right lane and right shoulder, with an electronic arrow board directing other traffic to move into the left lanes when it was hit from behind by a pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup, Nicholas Stokes, 23, of Pittsburg, was cited for Improper Passing of an Emergency/Construction Vehicle, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Operation of an Uninsured Motor Vehicle..

Stokes, and the driver of the construction truck, were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
