WILLIAMSON COUNTY Ill. (WJPF) – A man has been arrested for threatening a public official in Williamson County.

Deputies with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 3:30am on Sunday for a disturbance at a bar in Crainville.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a large crowd in the parking lot and attempted to restore order, but the crowd was non-compliant and obstructed law enforcement efforts.

The owner of the bar, who Sheriff Diederich recognized from prior police contact, was identified as John Thomas.

While speaking with Thomas, more disturbances could be heard from inside the bar, which sounded like multiple people fighting.

Thomas then began making multiple threats to Sheriff Diedrich, which led to his arrest.

Thomas faces charges of threatening a public official and resisting/obstructing a peace officer. He was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
