IHSA Football Playoffs Roundup: Scores and What’s Next

The first round of the IHSA Football Playoffs has come to a close for all area teams.  Here’s a look at the final scores and the second round matchups for area teams that advanced:

 

1A:

#2 Sesser-Valier-Waltonville defeats #15 Carrollton 34-8

After a slow start to the game, the Red Devils ripped off 28 points in the second half to take the lead and victory.

2A:

#5 Red Bud defeats #12 Chester 7-0

The game was scoreless until the final 28 seconds when the Musketeers finally found paydirt.

#8 Nashville defeats #9 Pana 49-7

There was never a doubt as the Hornets blast the Tigers for a huge first-round victory.

#3 Johnston City defeats #14 Auburn 16-8

The Indians were slowed down by the Trojans but not enough to upset Johnston City.

#11 Breese (Mater Dei) defeats #6 Carmi-White County 40-22

The Bulldogs’ season comes to an end against the Knights with a record of 7-3.

 

3A:

#1 Du Quoin defeats #16 Monticello 28-21

The top-seeded Indians survived an all-out war with the Sages at Van Metre Field.

#4 Mt. Carmel defeats #13 Benton 24-17

The Golden Aces fended up a surging Rangers in the second half to pick up the win.

#2 Greenville defeats #15 Fairfield 35-12

The Mules’ season comes to an end with a 5-5 record.

 

4A:

#11 Harrisburg defeats #6 Carterville 23-12

The Bulldogs stun the Lions for the second time this season with a huge 23-point second quarter.

#2 Murphysboro defeats #15 Taylorville 49-13

The Red Devils scored early and often to leave the Tornadoes in the dust.

5A:

#3 Highland defeats #14 Mt. Vernon 35-14

The Rams suffer a crushing loss in the Metro East to finish the year 6-4.

 

#10 Country Club Hills (Hillcrest) defeats #7 Carbondale 22-8

A home game at Frank Bleyer Field wasn’t enough to keep the Terriers’ season alive, Carbondale finishes the year 7-3.
