WAVERLY, Ky. (WJPF) — One man is dead after an accident at an underground coal mine in western Kentucky.
It happened late Friday night at the River View Mine in Waverly, Kentucky, about an hour’s drive east of Harrisburg.
Lester Daughtry Jr, 48, was a mine mechanic with 16 years of experience. Mine officials say Daughtry was performing maintenance on a continuous mining machine at the time of his death.
