After forming in 2011, the Danish band Lukas Graham released their third studio album, 3 (The Purple Album), over the weekend.  This is their first release since 2015.

The group reached viral success from homemade music videos for the songs “Drunk in the Morning” & “Criminal Mind” before releasing their first studio album in 2012.

Following the success from their debut album and numerous tours, Lukas Graham signed a record deal with Warner Bros. in 2013 and began recording music in Los Angeles while still being represented by Copenhagen Records.

Before their first U.S. album release in 2016, the band released three singles from the upcoming album: “Mama Said”, “Strip No More”, and “7 Years” in 2015. “7 Years” was the song that catapulted Lukas Graham into being globally recognized.  The song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and helped make the band the 20th most listened too artist on Spotify.

The success from the singles helped the album reach number three on the Billboard 200 charts.  The group was later nominated for three Grammy Awards at the 2017 ceremony.

Following a stellar 2016, the group remained relatively quiet since then only releasing a song that was featured on the soundtrack for My Little Pony: The Movie in 2017.

October 2018 then saw the group return with their third studio album and second U.S. release.  With frontman Lukas Forchhammer now married and having a child, 3 (The Purple Album) has a comfortable feel of love and happiness throughout.  Well, other than “Not A Damn Thing Changed”, which was written about a friend’s suicide.

With plenty of European success, and equal praise in the United States, it seems that Lukas Graham is here to stay.
