What to Watch Weekly

Helping you find what to watch in this wild world of streaming.

Each week WCIL will have some picks of the week for Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Peacock, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Paramount +, Discovery +, and Apple TV +

Netflix

“Shadow and Bone (Season 2)

Need some fantasy in your life? Shadow and Bone is back for its second season on Netflix. And if you’re unfamiliar with the world of the show, it does get you up to speed fairly quickly. The short version is that it takes place in an alternate world, much like our own, which has been divided by literal darkness. And in this world, magic is real.

Hulu

Boston Strangler

Based on the infamous true story of the Boston Strangler murders, this Hulu Original crime drama film tells the story of Loretta McLaughlin (Keira Knightley), the first reporter to connect the 13 murders committed by the Strangler and break the story. She and fellow reporter Jean Cole (Carrie Coon) were ahead of their time in the early 1960s, as they challenged sexism, uncovered corruption, and put their own lives at risk to protect women, pursue the investigation, and reveal the truth regarding the city of Boston’s most notorious serial killer.

Amazon Prime

Nope

One of the biggest cinematic releases of 2022 is hitting Prime Video later this month (lucky you)! Whether you missed it while it was in theaters or just want to relive all of the incredible Jordan Peele movie magic again, now is the time to watch Nope. The neo-Western sci-fi horror follows horse-wrangling Haywood siblings Otis, aka OJ (Daniel Kaluuya), and Emerald, aka Em (Keke Palmer) as they try to capture video evidence of a UFO in order to make money and turn their lives around.

Peacock

Queens Court”

For a fun twist on dating and reality TV shows, check out Queens Court, a Peacock Original dating series that shows how love and happiness aren’t exactly sure things for many women in the public eye, especially when it comes to romance. Producer Will Packer presents Tamar Braxton, Evelyn Lozada, and Nivea, three famous, single women who experience the ups and downs of dating, while also developing a sisterhood with one another in the process of trying to find their one true love on camera.

Disney+

Chang Can Dunk

This Disney+ Original family sports film follows 16-year-old Asian-American, Chang (Bloom Li), an unpopular high schooler at Cresthill High School. While he plays in the school marching band, what he really loves is basketball, though many of his peers look down on him and treat him and him passion like a joke. Determined to earn their respect as well as the admiration of his crush, Kristy (Zoe Renee), Chang dedicates himself to improving as an athlete and overcoming his 5’8″ height so he can learn to dunk.

HBO Max

Marlon Wayans: God Loves Me

God Loves Me is the latest (and perhaps greatest ) hour-long stand-up special from comedian, actor, and writer Marlon Wayans. This perfect blend of hilarity, physical comedy, and thoughtful reflection explores everything from 2022 Oscars’ infamous slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock, to friendship, family, mistakes, and redemption. Get up close and personal with Wayans by streaming this knock-out of a comedy special.

Discovery+

Forensic Files 2 (Season 2)

Forensic experts and investigators piece together strange clues and microscopic evidence to solve the most puzzling criminal cases …proving there is no such thing as a perfect crime. Forensic Files II is a revival continuation of the long-running American documentary true crime series Forensic Files (1996-2011).

Apple TV+

Ted Lasso (Season 3)

Do you want to know why Ted Lasso is Apple TV+’s breakout hit? It’s because this is one of the few comedy series that is truly uplifting and inspiring even when the characters face personal turmoil and drama. We believe in Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis), the unfailingly nice American football coach who was hired to coach an English soccer team, AFC Richmond.
