MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WJPF) — An Anna man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for assaulting a correctional officer.
Jackson County State’s Attorney Joe Cervantez says that in March 2021 Charles Whitney, 34, was an inmate at the Jackson County Jail and refused an order to return to his cell. The altercation escalated and ended with Whitney punching a correctional officer in the face.
Whitney was convicted of Aggravated Battery of a Correctional Officer. Following his release, Whitney must serve two years of mandatory supervised release.
