Corinne Wood, Illinois’ first female Lt. Governor, dead at 67

CHICAGO, Ill. (WJPF) — Corinne Wood, Illinois’ first female Lieutenant Governor, has died after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 67-year-old.

Wood, a Republican, served as Lt. Governor under Governor George Ryan from 1999 – 2003. Before that, she served as a State Representative for the 59th District.

In 2002, Wood unsuccessfully campaigned for the Republican nomination for governor, ultimately finishing third.
