In Williamson County, the Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois has chosen American Airlines as its next carrier.
The move would replace Contour Airlines when its contract ends in July.
Airport leaders say the switch could bring more passengers, larger planes, and direct service to Chicago O’Hare.
Final approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation is expected next month.
