Du Quoin Man Charged After Hit-and-Run Injures Pedestrian

A Du Quoin man is facing multiple charges after police say a vehicle struck a pedestrian and fled the scene Tuesday morning.

Du Quoin police were first called just after 8 o’clock for a report of a vehicle swerving on Washington Street. While officers were on the way, a second 911 call came in reporting a pedestrian had been hit at the intersection of Park and Line Streets.
When officers arrived, bystanders were helping the injured person. Witnesses described the vehicle and said the driver had left the scene.

Police say the vehicle later returned while officers were assisting the victim. The driver was identified as Cole Daffron. Officers reported a strong odor of alcohol and conducted a DUI investigation.

Daffron was arrested and taken to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office. He was cited for DUI, improper lane usage, and leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury.
