City of Carbondale has named Jay Crippen as its new Fire Chief, effective February 1st.
Crippen brings more than 27 years of fire service experience, including 24 years with the Carbondale Fire Department. A lifelong Carbondale resident, he’s held numerous roles within the department — including Firefighter, Shift Captain, Training Officer, Emergency Management Coordinator, Arson Investigator, and Assistant Fire Chief.
Crippen is a graduate of Southern Illinois University–Carbondale and will take command as the department continues its focus on emergency response, fire prevention, and community safety.
