Flu cases are surging across Illinois, making this the state’s worst flu season in more than 15 years.
The Illinois Department of Public Health says at least 100 people have died from the flu this season — most of them just this month. Children and older adults have been hit the hardest.
Health officials say flu activity statewide is now classified as “very high,” the most severe level tracked by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Doctors are urging people to take precautions — including staying home when sick, washing hands often, and talking with a healthcare provider about vaccination.
