Murphysboro is celebrating new funding to help homeowners make needed repairs.
The city has been awarded a $650,000 Community Development Block Grant through the State of Illinois and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development — the maximum amount available through the program.
City leaders say nearly 100 residents responded with repair needs they can’t afford, and the city is now working on plans to distribute the funding later this year.
