Kratom sales will be banned in unincorporated areas of Jackson County starting January 1, 2026.
The Jackson County Board approved a public health ordinance this week prohibiting the sale and distribution of kratom and kratom-derived products outside city limits.
County officials say the decision follows growing medical evidence linking kratom use to serious health risks. According to the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, kratom has been associated with addiction, seizures, heart and liver problems, and even death.
