Governor JB Pritzker has signed a new law giving Illinois more control over its own vaccine guidelines.
The measure allows the Illinois Department of Public Health to issue state-specific recommendations, even if they differ from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Supporters say the law protects evidence-based medicine and will ensure vaccines recommended by the state are covered by insurance.
Pritzker says the goal is to protect public health and encourage families to stay up to date on vaccinations.
