Franklin County has been awarded more than $535,000 through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Energy Transition Community Grant Program.
The funding is aimed at helping communities affected by the closure of local energy plants or mines, while also supporting key infrastructure improvements across county government.
Officials say the grant will go toward projects designed to strengthen community resilience and deliver long-term benefits for residents.
The DCEO will partner with Franklin County to carry out the approved projects in the months ahead.
