Man Arrested for Animal Abuse

Carbondale police have arrested a local man on multiple animal abuse charges.

Officers were called to North Oakland Street around nine o’clock the night of October twenty-third after reports of a dog being beaten.
Police say a witness told them thirty-eight-year-old Remus Williams hit his dog several times with a stick.

Officers found the dog injured and removed it from the home. Carbondale Animal Control took the animal to a veterinarian, where the injuries were determined to be consistent with abuse.

Williams was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail.
He’s facing several charges, including animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December sixteenth at one fifteen in the afternoon.
