The Carbondale Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that happened early yesterday morning.
Around 2 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of East Pleasant Hill Road and South Wall Street. Police say a car heading south on Wall Street failed to stop, left the road, and hit a tree before catching fire.
The driver, 38-year-old Daryl Norwood of Carbondale, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle.
Carbondale Police were assisted by the fire department, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the coroner, SIU Public Safety, and Illinois State Police.
