West Frankfort contract negotiations heat up

The Frankfort CUSD 168 school board met Monday night as teacher contract negotiations remain unresolved—now 31 days past expiration.

Superintendent Matt Donkin says the district is struggling with rising insurance rates and budget deficits, while still trying to support staff. He called the talks “stuck,” but says both sides want long-term stability for students and teachers.
The board approved its budget for submission to the state, though Donkin noted it may need to be amended once a teacher contract is reached.

Teachers’ union president Tim Aldridge says educators are pushing for better pay, benefits, and protections, and hopes for action soon.

No decisions were made at the meeting, but more negotiating sessions are planned.
