13th For Kids’ Sake International Superhero 5K Run/Walk

Superheroes will be taking over Turley Park (1010 N. Glenview Dr, Carbondale, IL) this
Saturday, September 20, for the 13th For Kids’ Sake International Superhero 5K Run/Walk! Superheroes save
lives, and all proceeds from this event provide life-saving services for children in Southern Illinois, Bangladesh
and The Gambia.

On race day, registrants can expect music from a live DJ, local vendors, and an award ceremony with
celebratory prizes. The event opens at 8:00am and people can register that morning. By 9:00 am participants
will gather at the starting line to take off. Carbondale City Manager Stan Reno will kick off the race and the
Carbondale Fire Department will bring their fire truck to the event representing our local heroes!

As runners and walkers complete the 5K route, they will be greeted with free cookies and fruit. After which
they can visit vendors including free massage, a local acupuncturist, handmade skincare products, and other
fantastic event sponsors. The event will wrap up with an Award Ceremony where generous prizes, including a
$200 gift card to Shawnee Canopy Tours, a $100 gift certificate to the Branch Café and Market, Carhartt
backpacks, race medals and more will be awarded to Top Fundraisers, Fastest Times, and Best Superhero
Costumes.

While in-person participants will gather this weekend for the race, virtual participants can complete their 5K
races anywhere in the galaxy and upload their results online. We will also be joined virtually by our partners in
Bangladesh, The Gambia and Germany.
