Police: violent Chicago gang member arrested during Marion traffic stop

MARION, Ill. (WJPF) – A man who police say is a member of a violent Chicago street gang was arrested during a traffic stop in Marion. A gun and illegal drugs were also seized.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Petre Washington, 49, was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over Saturday afternoon for minor traffic violation. As the deputy approached the car, they noticed a loaded firearm magazine in Washington’s lap. A 9 millimeter pistol was later found concealed near his waistband. The drugs were found in numerous plastic baggies.

Peter Washington was taken to the Williamson County Jail on charges of armed habitual criminal, unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a controlled substance

The driver of the car was issued a traffic citation and released.
