Sheriff’s Offices Warn of Scam Involving Fake Traffic Violations

The Williamson and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an ongoing scam involving false unpaid traffic citations.

Both agencies have received reports of individuals being sent text messages, emails, or documents claiming they owe money for traffic or toll violations. Although the messages may look official, they are not legitimate.

Local law enforcement agencies do not send notices about traffic citations by text or email. Legitimate court-related communication is handled through official records and mailed notices.

Residents should watch out for requests for immediate payment, messages sent by text or email about citations, documents that look official but include generic names or suspicious details, and QR codes or links asking for payment.

If you are sent a scam notice, any of your private information should not be disseminated. Instead, you are asked to contact either the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office or Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and report the information you received.
