After nearly two and a half hours of discussion, the Carbondale City Council adjourned Friday without taking action on a proposed ordinance that would ban public camping.
The measure would restrict encampments within city limits, but drew significant public input during the meeting.
Some council members expressed concern about moving forward without additional resources and long-term solutions for those experiencing homelessness, suggesting a community-based approach instead.
There is currently no timeline for when the ordinance could return for a vote.
