Carterville School District officials have identified an employee at the center of an ongoing criminal investigation.
The case involves teacher and assistant football coach John J. Wakey, who has been placed on administrative leave and barred from school property.
The investigation stems from a report by a former student alleging criminal sexual abuse dating back about a decade. The district says it was notified by law enforcement in February and took immediate action.
Officials confirm Wakey has worked at Carterville High School since 2003. Authorities are now reviewing records and the investigation remains active.
The district says no charges have been filed at this time.
