Shawnee Mass Transit District has received a $100,000 Community Rides Grant to expand service across southern Illinois.
The funding will launch Shawnee Express, offering same-day, on-demand rides and extended service hours in Anna and Metropolis — now running until 6 p.m. on weekdays and limited hours on Saturdays.
Officials say the expansion will help residents reach medical appointments, jobs, and other essential services in rural communities that rely on public transportation.
