The Illinois Attorney General’s Office is warning residents about possible winter utility scams.
Officials say scammers may pose as utility company workers and threaten to shut off your heat unless you make an immediate payment.
Consumers are advised to ask for identification, and to call their utility company directly using an official phone number to confirm whether someone was actually sent to your home.
