The Illinois Department of Human Services says private health-related information for more than seven hundred thousand Illinois residents was mistakenly posted on a public website for years due to incorrect privacy settings.
The agency says the issue was discovered in September of last year and access was immediately restricted, but officials are facing questions about why it took years to find the problem and months to notify the public.
IDHS says new policies are now in place to prevent similar data breaches in the future.
