Continental’s Mount Vernon Plant Earns Landmark Sustainability Certification

Continental’s tire plant in Mount Vernon has become the company’s first U.S. facility to earn the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS (ISCC PLUS) designation — a major milestone for one of the largest tire plants in the country.

The Mount Vernon site, which employs roughly 3,900 workers, is now recognized for meeting strict standards related to traceability, sustainability, and the use of renewable and recycled raw materials. In an announcement, Continental said the certification shows that “transparent, traceable supply chains for renewable and recycled raw materials work at scale.”

With the addition of the Mount Vernon facility, Continental now operates ISCC PLUS–certified plants in every region where it manufactures tires, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas. The company has set a goal of producing at least 40 percent of its tires with recycled or renewable materials by 2030.
