For the first time under a new scoring system, more than half of all students statewide scored proficient or better in English language arts. However, math scores continue to lag behind — with only about 38 percent of students meeting or exceeding proficiency standards.
The report also shows progress in other areas. Illinois’ high school graduation rate has reached its highest level in 15 years, and the achievement gaps between racial and ethnic groups are beginning to narrow.
Education officials say the results show improvement but also highlight the need for continued focus on math achievement and equitable access to resources across the state.
