Herrin Man Arrested for Vehicle Break In

A Herrin man has been arrested after a traffic stop tied to an attempted vehicle break-in along Route 13.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded last Monday night to a report of a damaged vehicle near Crab Orchard Road. The owner had left the car on the shoulder due to mechanical trouble and later found the passenger window broken.

Witnesses described the suspects, and about an hour later, deputies spotted the suspect vehicle in Herrin and pulled it over on South 20th Street.

Deputies say Justin Phipps matched the description and ran into a home before being taken into custody. A search of the vehicle turned up a tire iron linked to the damage. Phipps was identified by both the victim and a witness.
