Carbondale native Trey McKinney sets record at Lake St. Clair Bassmaster event

Carbondale native Trey McKinney won the 2025 Bassmaster Elite at Lake St. Clair event on Sunday, leading from start to finish.

The 20-year-old caught five smallmouth bass that weighed 23 pounds, 13 ounces on the final day to claim the championship and the first place prize of $102,500.

His four day weight of 96 pounds, 1 ounce was the largest ever for a tournament on Lake St. Clair and the fifth-largest all-time for a Bassmaster event.

It is McKinney’s first win of the season and second of his career.  He’s the youngest two-time winner in the Elite Series.
