Arrest made in Mt. Vernon shooting

MT. VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – An arrest has been made in connection to a deadly weekend shooting in Mt. Vernon.

Jamaro Kemmerling, 26, of Mt. Vernon, has been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of firearm by a repeat felony offender.

Two people were killed and five more were injured early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted during a large gathering near the intersection of South 15th and Lamar Avenue. Based on shell casings and evidence at the scene, police believe multiple shooters were involved.

No arrests have been made on murder charges. Police have struggled getting first hand witnesses to cooperate with the investigation.
