Jackson County man facing attempted murder charges

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – A Jackson County man has been charged with attempted murder after attacking two people he was riding in a car with, including the driver.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, at about 3:00 a.m. Saturday Michael Alstat, 21, used a knife to cut the throat of the male driver and cut the hand of a female passenger.

The bleeding victims knocked on a stranger’s door for help. Police arrived at the rural Murphysboro home, administered first aid to the victims and arrested Alstat.

Michael Alstat is currently in the Jackson County jail on charges of attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery. He has been denied pretrial release. His next court date is July 8.
