JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – A woman died after falling at Giant City State Park.
The accident happened Sunday morning in the area of the Devil’s Standtable Trail.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Ashley Stempien, 37, and Carols Riddle, 31, were exploring the top of a cliff when Stempien slipped and fell approximately 55 feet. She died of her injuries while being transported to a St. Louis hospital.
Both Stempien and Riddle were visiting the area. Police say the pair are residents of Alabama.
