Johnston City fills void at head football coach & head basketball coach

Monday night, Johnston city announced they had filled both their vacant head football coach position as well as the open boys’ basketball coach position.

Marshall Mummert is the new head football coach.  He has 16 years of experience as an assistant coach for Johnston City and 19 years total.  He is also a 2005 graduate of Johnston City High School.  Since 2022, Mummert was the offensive coordinator of the Indians and oversaw the team’s offensive and defensive lines.

Former head coach Todd Thomas will remain on staff.

Quinton Smothers was named the new Tribe boys’ basketball coach.  He has 13 years of experience coaching basketball in the Herrin school district.  The past 10 years he has been the JV head coach at Herrin High School with a record of 132-55.

Smothers brings another Herrin name along to serve as an assistant on his staff – Hayden Holloway.
