Leaking anhydrous ammonia tank prompts fire department response

BUCKNER, Ill. (WJPF) – A leaking anhydrous ammonia tank caused a stink Friday in Franklin County.

According to the Buckner Volunteer Fire Department, a farmer was applying the chemical to a field located on the north side of Route 14.  The leaking tank caused a cloud of ammonia to linger in the air and then be blown by the wind into residential areas.

Within an hour the leaking tank was located and properly sealed.  No injuries were reported.
