Mt. Vernon argument turns deadly

MT. VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – One person is dead, another is behind bars after police say an argument escalated to violence in Mt. Vernon.

The victim was a 62-year-old man; his name has not yet been released.

Mt. Vernon Police say the victim was working on a vehicle Tuesday afternoon when he got into an argument with Robert Lewis, 45.

Police say disagreement escalated until both men damaged the other’s vehicle.  Robert Lewis is accused of hitting the 62-year-old with his vehicle and then driving away from the scene.  Lewis surrendered himself to the police a short time later.

Robert Lewis has been charged with reckless homicide.  Police say more charges may be brought as their investigation progresses.
