Mt. Vernon man arrested after police chase through Williamson County

HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – A Mt. Vernon man was arrested behind the wheel of a stolen pickup.

Jake Gilmore, 25, is facing a handful of charges after police say he led officers on a chase in Williamson County.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, around 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Herrin Police tried to pull over the pickup for multiple traffic offenses.  Gilmore sped away, first traveling west on Herrin Road, then using Cambria Road to access Route 13.

After a rolling roadblock failed near the intersection of Route 13 and Spillway Road, a Williamson County Sheriff’s Deputy rammed their squad car into the stolen pickup, causing it to lose control and come to a stop.

Jake Gilmore was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen Vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, and driving while license revoked.
