Carbondale Terriers legend Ron Acks, the only Terrier to make it to the NFL, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 in Huntersville, North Carolina. He was 79.
Acks played linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons (’68 – ’71), New England Patriots (’72 – ’73), and Green Bay Packers (’74 – ’76). He attended the University of Illinois and played running back in the 1963 and 1964 seasons.
A Terrier Hall of Fame member, Acks’ #19 jersey is the only Carbondale football jersey to ever be retired.
