Illinois rainy day fund tops $2 billion

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) – Once containing as little as $48,000 Illinois’ rainy day fund has now surpassed the $2 billion mark.

According to Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza, $2 billion would run the state for about 15 days.

Mendoza wants more money in the fund, saying that most states have at least a 50 day cash reserve on hand.
