ISP released video of officer involved shooting

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – The Illinois State Police have released security camera video of an officer involved shooting that happened last October inside of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

ISP say in the early morning hours of October 20, 2021, Aaron Sealy, 30, was arrested by McLeansboro Police and taken to the sheriff’s office in Hamilton County.

The video shows that while handcuffed and seated, Sealy loosened his handcuffs and a bolt that secured the shackles to the wall. Once free, Sealy grabbed a fire extinguisher that was hanging nearby on a wall and discharged it towards officers. ISP says officers told Sealy to drop the extinguisher, although the video published Monday does not include audio.

Officers shot Sealy who then dropped the extinguisher and dropped to the ground. He was taken to a local hospital and released.

Aaron Sealy has been charged with aggravated battery as a result of the incident. The officers will not face any charges.
