Shawneetown woman sentenced to 63 months for stealing $1.5 million from former employer

SHAWNEETOWN, Ill. (WJPF) — A Shawneetown woman has been sentenced to 63 months in prison for defrauding her former employer of over one million dollars.

Paula Hise, 55, pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud.

Federal prosecutors say that from 2007 – 2017 Hise worked as a bookkeeper. They say she used a company credit card for personal expenses, and then paid off the card with the business’ checking account. Hise would cover up the scheme by making false entries in account ledgers, creating false reports, and lying to her employer.

In addition to the time behind bars, Paula Hise was also ordered to pay the United States $200 in special assessments, and to pay a total of $1,550,379.14 in restitution to her former employer, less any amounts received from a related civil suit. Hise was also placed on a three year term of supervised release to follow her incarceration.
