Woman shot while detained in back of squad car

MOUND CITY, Ill. (WJPF) — A suspect, who was detained and sitting in the back of a squad car, was shot Tuesday night in Pulaski County.

Illinois State Police say it all started at about 10:00 p.m. in the 700 block of Pearl Street in Mound City.

A press release states that a Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputy was investigating the scene of a fire that had happened earlier that night when they were approached by several individuals trying to obstruct the investigation. ISP says the deputy eventually detained one woman and placed her in the back of the squad car. While the deputy was taking a second person into custody, a third person shot in the deputy’s direction, hitting the woman detained in the back seat of the squad car.

The woman was treated and released from a hospital. No one else was hurt.
