Former Carbondale Mayor Neil Dillard dead at 92

CARBONDLE, Ill. (WJPF) — Neil Dillard, Carbondale’s longest serving mayor, has passed away.

Dillard died Saturday at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. He was 92-years-old.

Born in West Frankfort, Dillard was first elected Carbondale Mayor in 1987 and served in the role for 16 years, retiring in 2003.

Dillard also served on the Carbondale City Council for over two decades and served as President of the Illinois Municipal League.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, in care of Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
