Harrisburg’s Eversmann receives award for community service from Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears announced Thursday that Harrisburg senior Blake Eversmann has been named their Community High School All-Star award winner for this year.

During Eversmann’s freshman year, he began cleaning the crosses of veterans in his local cemetery and has continued to do so since ahead of Memorial Day and Veterans Day as a way of honoring and thanking those who have served our country.

Additionally, he recently helped organize a fundraiser to purchase new crosses for fallen veterans and created the Veterans Memorial Preservation Fund.  That fund provides scholarships for youth who give back to their community or lost a loved one served in the military.

In addition to playing football, Eversmann maintained a 4.0 GPA for all four years and was part of the band, wrestling team, and other clubs.

“Blake’s contribution to our community is inspiring,” says Harrisburg football coach Gabe Angelly.  “For a project to start out as cleaning crosses and lead to a complete renovation of our ‘Little Arlington’ is a tribute to his hard work and dedication.”
