Cook County Jail escapee arrested in Paducah

PADUCAH, Ky. (WJPF) — An escapee of the Cook County Jail is back in custody after a police chase that started in Massac County and ended in Paducah.

It all started at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 24 when a Massac County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled over a car going over 100 miles per hour. The driver, 35-year-old Desmond Jiles, initially stopped the car, but then took off during the traffic stop.

Jiles drove down I-24 into Kentucky, where he crashed the car while getting off the interstate at Exit 3. Jiles jumped out of the car and ran off, but was arrested a short time later on the side of the interstate.

Jiles now faces charges in Cook County, Massac County, and the City of Paducah.

A passenger in the car, 37-year-old Amber Santo, was cited for possession of marijuana.
