Effingham man sentenced for baggage car theft

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (WJPF) — Stealing from the baggage car of an Amtrak train has landed an Effingham man behind bars for the next three years.

In February, prosecutors say 33-year-old William Knight, Jr stole a number of items belonging to passengers of the train that was stopped in Carbondale.

Items included electronics, jewelry, and 9mm pistol with two loaded magazines.

Knight is convicted felon, no longer allowed to possess a gun. He pleaded guilty to Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon.
