State Representative Brandon Phelps is expected to step down today, after serving in Springfield since 2003.

Phelps represents the 118th District, which covers all or part of 11 counties in Southern Illinois.

His resignation is reportedly due to health issues – Phelps had an eye injured in a hunting accident many years ago, and continued problems with that eye are causing him to miss time in Springfield.

Phelps was crucial to the passage of Illinois’ concealed carry act in 2013.
