Carterville Police investigating shots fired, damaged vehicles

Police in Carterville say they are investigating two reports of shots fired.

The first occurred Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of McNeil Street.

According to a press release, a resident heard a single “pop” around 3:00PM. Then at about 6:00PM, they discovered a bullet hole in their vehicle.

The second incident, which happened just after 1:00AM Wednesday, is similar to the first. Police say a resident in the 600 block of California Street reported hearing shots fired, but police were unable to locate the source. Then, later that morning, about 7:30AM, the resident reported damage to their car caused by gunshots.

No injuries have been reported. Police add the preliminary investigation indicates that the shootings were the result of a disagreement between acquaintances and not random acts.
