Du Quoin man sentenced for sexual abusing a developmentally disabled person

PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill. (WJPF) – A Du Quoin man has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexually abusing a person with a learning disability.

Larry Vancil, 74, was arrested in January 2021 and later pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual abuse.

The case was prosecuted by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. They say that Vancil was a bus driver for the South Central Illinois Mass Transit District and, while on the job, sexually abused a passenger whom he knew had a severe learning disability.

The Attorney General’s Office says the victim was a person who was either residing or receiving assistance from Five Star Industries, a Du Quoin non-profit that provides housing and employment assistance for individuals with developmental disabilities.
